We arrived in Kiev on Saturday, March 13th! This picture is of the living room in our apartment that we shared with 3 other ladies. It was very nice, clean and close to down town Kiev.
On Sunday, after the church service we walked to a nearby Ukranian restaurant where we met some singles from the church who were our translators for the week! It was the best getting to know Sergiey and Leysa! After lunch, we walked back to the church and participated in our first Shoe Box Distribution to over 700 kids!!!!
This is one of my favorite places that we visited...an orphanage for handicapped boys. The director was amazing and the kids were so appreciative of their gifts! We didn't get to see them open their gifts, but it was exciting to see their faces light up with the gifts! One boy was so beside himself at receiving a gift that he ran around in circles until he found Jeff kneeling down handing out shoe boxes to the younger boys and he ran up to Jeff and hugged his neck and gave him a big kiss on the cheek! A truly unforgettable moment!
This was an orphanage that we visited on Wednesday with younger children. It was fun to sit down and play with them and help them discover what was inside their boxes.
This little girl's face lit up the moment that we walked in the room. There were only 5 toddlers in this area, and plenty of supervision, but this little girl liked all the attention she could get! It made my whole week to play with her and to pick her up!
Center City, Kiev in front of an orthadox church. Walking into one of these churches was really an experience....it gave new meaning to overpowering incense!
See somthing out of place here? This was our friend, Leysa's idea as we walked up the street market one day. After a chilly, but pleasant walk and shopping experience, we all enjoyed some Ukranian coffee at a local shop. I had hot chocolate and it was the best hot chocolate that I've ever had ~ it was more like chocolate pudding.
These are only a few of our pictures from our amazing trip. I will never forget the surreal experiences of being able to hand shoe boxes to a child, making new friends, enjoying some new food, experiencing God's protection and mercy in my emergency trip to the hospital, seeing children's faces light up, and bonding with the other team members from our church.
